Media is the New Marketing

Featured Image

Marketing, in the traditional sense of the word, is changing.

It used to be about flyers, brochures, signage, billboards, TV ads and more. And to a certain degree it still is.

But in today’s economy, media is what sells. I am not talking about traditional news media, although they do it too.

Media, in this sense, is content. It includes written content (think blogs like this one), creative images, videos, podcasts and a growing number of other mediums.

It is not a new concept, but the more media you create (a.k.a. unique, interesting content), the more attention you will inevitably get.

Content creates noise. Of course, some sounds are enjoyable and sought after, and others are pollution. Regardless, noise gets attention.

If you want to attract people to your business, create content. And lots of it.

Make it high quality, interesting, sharable, and either put it on your website and share links to it on social media, or put it on platforms like YouTube or Facebook… but always use it to direct people back to your website.

Media is the new marketing. Create lots of it, and you will attract eyeballs. And eyeballs will equate to dollars.

His book, Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook is essentially the same idea. Deliver media, not marketing… which is marketing, after all. Another great example is Seth Godin who delivers great content every single day in the form of blog posts. Subscribe to get those posts sent to your inbox every morning. Seth is considered by many as one of the foremost authorities in marketing.
